Portaiolo

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Portaiolo is a grass beach located at the foot of Montorfano in the Mergozzo Lake area. The beach is freely accessible and is known locally as "La rustica". It is 174 metres wide and classified as excellent quality based on routine sampling from 2021–2024. The area offers water sports facilities and is adjacent to a restaurant structure with public services and shower facilities.

Mergozzo Lake. The bathing area covers 0.174 square kilometres and is characterized by a null pressure class.

Location

Water Quality

Water quality classification: EXCELLENT. Based on 18 routine samples from 2021–2024. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 113.0 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 190.4 MPN/100 ml. Enterococchi 90th percentile: 110.6 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 197.8 MPN/100 ml.

Risks

A stream located approximately 200 metres from the bathing zone may discharge untreated sewage from non-connected houses, potentially affecting water quality during heavy rainfall. Intense precipitation can trigger overflow structures and accidental failures of lifting installations, introducing untreated effluent to the lake. Inadequate management of the sewage network is a potential pollution source.
