Lac d'Arjuzanx is a 147-hectare lake located in the Landes department of Aquitaine, France. The bathing zone features a 200-meter sandy beach with an average width of 30 meters. The lake was created through the natural filling of excavations from a lignite mining operation that was conducted from 1959 to 1992 and subsequently rehabilitated starting in 1981. The site is now a designated National Nature Reserve and Natura 2000 protected area, notable for being France's largest wintering site for Eurasian cranes. The bathing beach is operational from mid-June to early September, with average daily attendance of 600 to 800 swimmers.

Lac d'Arjuzanx is a freshwater lake covering 147 hectares. The bathing zone has a maximum depth of 3 meters, an average slope of 10 percent and maximum slope of 20 percent. The beach is 200 meters long with an average width of 30 meters and total area of 5,000 square meters. Water circulation flows in a northwestern direction. The lake substrate is sandy with no submerged or emergent vegetation.

Location

Arjuzanx is a small village located 32 kilometers northwest of Mont-de-Marsan in the Landes department. The bathing area is accessed by RD road with parking available 150 meters away, followed by a 115-meter pedestrian path and 35-meter access staircase to the beach. The site is situated approximately 13 kilometers from the Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park.

Facilities

Lifeguards stationed at a rescue post located at the top of the beach. Toilet facilities with sealed tanks emptied three times weekly are located near the site entrance. A rinse shower is available near the rescue post. Beach amenities include a storage facility for water sports equipment, a pontoon, trash bins at the top of the beach, and an information panel at the top of the staircase. Garbage is collected daily. Domestic animals are prohibited. Access infrastructure includes an escalier to the beach and a 115-meter pedestrian path from the parking area.
