Lac De Peyre

France Lake 1 - Excellent

Lac de Peyre is a bathing area located on the shores of a lake in the commune of Labouheyre in the Landes department of southwestern France. The bathing zone was created in summer 2006 and is situated south of Labouheyre along the D626 road. The lake beach measures 50 meters long and 15 meters wide, with a total surface area of 750 square meters. The bathing zone is delimited by a rectangle of 10 by 40 meters marked with buoys. The beach has sandy shores with a gentle slope and is integrated between an urbanized zone to the west, a forested area to the east, and a departmental road to the south.

Water

Lake (Lac de Peyre). Average depth 1.20 meters, maximum depth 1.90 meters. Water slope averages 10 percent. The lake is supplied by a former quarry from road works (rocade). Some submerged algae present, mainly on the eastern secondary lake. Water transparency impact is low.

Location

Located south of Labouheyre in the Landes department, Aquitaine region, along the D626 road. Access is via a road leading to a parking area, then by a sandy path. The coordinates are 44° 12' 45'' North, 0° 55' 0'' West, at an altitude of 70 meters.

Facilities

One rescue post. Showers and toilets available. Some picnic tables and benches. Trash bins with daily collection on the bathing zone. Information point. Parking available. Dogs prohibited by municipal order.

Season

July 1 to August 31.

Water Quality

Water classified as Grade A (good quality) consistently from 2008 through 2012 under the historical classification system. Under the 2006 Directive simulation based on four years of data, the water achieved Excellent quality classification starting in 2013. 2012 monitoring showed zero non-conformities for E. coli and Enterococci against both guide and imperative values. Since 2006, 6 results exceeded guide values (5 E. coli, 1 Enterococci) and 1 result exceeded imperative value (Enterococci). Self-monitoring conducted since 2005 detected occasional episodes with elevated bacterial counts.

Risks

Submerged algae species present, particularly on the southern border and more extensively on the second lake to the east. Water circulation follows wind-driven current patterns and groundwater flow directions.
