Laidis Mile A is an extensive sandy to shingle beach located in the southern part of Limassol Bay, Cyprus. The beach stretches nearly straight for approximately 1,200 meters in a north-south direction with sparse vegetation, primarily scrubland. A natural shoreline zone exists with sandy sediment and scattered pebbles, with no coastal structures. The beach is accessible by dirt road from the New Port of Limassol and has one private catering facility. Water quality has been classified as excellent based on long-term monitoring data.

Water

Southern Limassol Bay. The beach extends 1,200 meters in length with average water depth of 2 meters and maximum depth of 3.5 meters. The shoreline consists of sandy sediment with scattered pebbles. The water body is part of a larger internal surface water body (CY_9-5-3_10_L2) which is in good ecological condition.

Location

Located near the northern edge of the beach in the District of Limassol, Tserkez Community, near the OASIS restaurant. Access is via dirt road from the New Port of Limassol. The monitoring point coordinates are 33.0098°E, 34.6389°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

One private catering facility with a restaurant. Approximately 15 waste bins distributed along the length of the beach. Beach management is public. The beach falls within the area of British military bases.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data collected since Cyprus's accession to the European Union in 2004. The coastal body to which this beach belongs is in good ecological condition. No short-term pollution incidents were recorded during the bathing seasons 2008-2010.

Risks

Moderate degree of risk for development of macroalgae and phytoplankton due to identified pollution sources including small-scale agricultural runoff and seepage, septic tanks from residential and tourist infrastructure developments upstream and on the beach, and military base activities. Motorized water sports and vessels approaching Limassol port are potential sources of marine pollution. Two fish farming units are located northeast of the beach. Negligible risk of short-term pollution with estimated frequency of once during the bathing season and duration of 1-2 days.
