Olympion Beach A is an extensive sandy beach located along the coastal road of Limassol, Cyprus. The beach stretches for 700 metres and features recreational facilities at various points along its length, with a promenade constructed at the upper boundary of the sandy shore. The seabed is composed of sandy material with an average depth of 2 metres and a maximum depth of 3.5 metres. Four submerged breakwaters constructed approximately 140 metres offshore protect the beach from wave action. The beach has been designated with Blue Flag status and can accommodate a maximum of 2,000 daily swimmers.

Coastal marine water body named Lemesós Anatoliká. Average water depth is 2 metres. Maximum water depth is 3.5 metres. Beach length is 700 metres. The seabed is covered with sandy material of uniform grain composition.

Location

Limassol, Cyprus. The bathing water is located at the eastern part of Limassol (Lemesós Anatoliká) along the coastal road. Monitoring point coordinates: 33.0556°E, 34.6814°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Blue Flag status. Waste collection bins are provided along the entire beach length, maintained by Limassol Municipality. Public facilities for visitor services are not available. Toilets can be accessed at adjacent food service establishments. A promenade extends along the upper boundary of the sandy beach.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent according to monitoring data. The coastal water body to which this bathing area belongs is in good ecological status. Monitoring has been conducted for many years, with formal reports prepared since Cyprus's European Union accession in 2004. One isolated pollution incident was recorded during the 2007 swimming season and was attributed to a passing vessel.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development due to pollution sources in the terrestrial and marine influence zones. Short-term pollution risk is low. Possible sources include stormwater runoff and passing vessels. One short-term pollution incident was recorded between 2008 and 2010 (10 August 2010), attributed to a passing vessel. Short-term pollution events occur approximately once per swimming season and typically last 1–2 days.
