Olympion Beach B is an extensive sandy beach located along the coastal road of Limassol, Cyprus. The beach is 600 metres long with an average water depth of 1.5 metres and a maximum depth of 2.5 metres. Four submerged breakwaters, each approximately 80 metres long, are positioned parallel to the shoreline about 140 metres offshore to protect the beach from wave action. The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status and features waste collection bins throughout its length.

Water

Coastal marine water body named Limassol East. The seabed consists of sandy material. Average water depth is 1.5 metres; maximum depth is 2.5 metres. Beach length is 600 metres. The hydrological basin has a mean elevation of 438.2 metres and a mean annual surface rainfall of 534.7 millimetres.

Location

Limassol Municipality, Limassol District, eastern Limassol. The monitoring point is located at the area of highest bather density. Coordinates: 33.0655°E, 34.6866°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Blue Flag beach status. Toilets are available through adjacent food and beverage facilities. Waste collection bins are present along the entire beach length. The beach features a pedestrian promenade along the shoreline. No public facilities specifically dedicated to bathers are provided. Lifeguard information is not specified.

Season

Monitoring is conducted during the bathing season. Southwestern winds predominate in the region during the swimming period.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The coastal water body is in good ecological condition. Monitoring has been conducted for many years, with formal reports prepared under EU Directive 76/160/EEC since Cyprus's accession to the European Union in 2004. One isolated pollution incident was recorded during the 2005 swimming season, attributed to a passing vessel.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development based on identified pollution sources. Short-term pollution events are considered low risk. Possible pollution sources include agricultural runoff and passing commercial vessels. One short-term pollution event was recorded between 2008 and 2010 (30 June 2009), with typical duration of 1-2 days.
