Koster Færgegård

Koster Færgegård Strand is a small, sheltered sandy beach located at the Camping Mønbroen campsite on Ulvssund in Stege Bay. The beach is 140 meters long and 15 meters wide, composed of fine sand with scattered small stones. It offers scenic views of the Queen Alexandrine Bridge and can be accessed only through the campsite via Præstøvej/Kostervej.

Water

Brackish water in Stege Bay. Water depth increases gradually, with depths under 2 meters within 100 meters from the shoreline. Seabed consists of fine sand. Current direction is variable with no primary current direction identified based on 44 measurements between 2006–2010.

Location

Located at Camping Mønbroen campsite near Koster in Vordingborg Municipality, Denmark. Access is via Præstøvej/Kostervej road leading to the campsite. The beach is part of the campsite and can only be reached through it.

Facilities

Toilets, waste bins, rescue ring, showers (available at the campsite), warning sign for degraded bathing water quality.

Season

1 June to 1 September. Water quality classification is revised annually before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring for faecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and Enterococcus) during the bathing season. The campsite has its own mini treatment plant that treats wastewater; treated effluent is discharged via a 20-meter pipeline into Stege Bay and has low influence on bathing water quality under normal circumstances.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Risk of seaweed (macroalgae) washing ashore; swimming near large amounts of seaweed is not recommended as plant accumulations can promote bacterial growth. Glass shards and litter may occur. Sudden contamination can occur from leisure boat accidents, slurry tanks, and sewage pipes. Very low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills.
