Langelinie is a bathing water located on the north side of Horsens Fjord in Denmark. The beach extends approximately 50 metres and consists of a sandy area 5–10 metres wide, with sand and mud mixed with some larger stones at the water's edge and extending 10–20 metres into the water. A bathing pier approximately 100 metres long has been established due to the generally shallow water conditions. The water is classified as Excellent based on data from 2017 and 2018, with a salinity of approximately 1.8%.

Water

Fjord water body. Beach extends approximately 50 metres with a sandy area 5–10 metres wide. Water bottom consists of sand and mud with some larger stones. Generally shallow water with depths shown on the site map. Salinity approximately 1.8%. Water flow direction typically runs east–west on the north side of the fjord.

Location

Located on the north side of Horsens Fjord in Horsens Municipality, Denmark. Access road and parking are available at the site. An information board is installed at the bathing pier.

Facilities

Bathing pier with two platforms (one midway for mooring small boats and canoes, one at the end with stairs for water entry). Toilets available. Parking available. Information sign at the bathing pier.

Water Quality

Water is classified as Excellent. The bathing water station was newly designated in 2017 and classified based on data from 2017 and 2018. Exceedances of water quality requirements (E. coli and intestinal enterococci) are correlated with rainfall intensity. Heavy rainfall from three smaller overflow structures can cause short-term pollution lasting a maximum of 3 days. Water visibility is measured during sampling; bathers should not enter if water clarity is poor or the feet cannot be seen at knee depth.

Risks

Three smaller overflow structures near the station can release highly diluted wastewater during heavy rainfall, causing short-term pollution. Risk of cyanobacterial blooms, typically occurring after heavy rainfall followed by warm periods; blooms can cause discoloured water, foam, and produce toxins causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea. Risk of large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) at the water's edge; bathing is not recommended near macroalgae accumulations as decaying seaweed can produce toxins and harbour disease-causing bacteria. Occasional pollution from glass, waste, and chemical spills including oil leaks.
