Strandparken is a bathing beach located on the north side of Horsens Fjord in Denmark. The beach is approximately 300 meters long and consists of a sandy area about 5–10 meters wide. The bottom is muddy and sandy near the water's edge and extending 10–20 meters into the water. Water depths are generally shallow. The beach has been classified as excellent water quality based on data from the previous year and three preceding bathing seasons.

Water

Horsens Fjord. The beach extends approximately 300 meters with a sandy area 5–10 meters wide. Bottom composition is mud and sand near the water's edge and extending 10–20 meters into the water. Water is generally shallow. Salinity is approximately 1.8 percent.

Location

Strandparken is located on the north side of Horsens Fjord near Horsens, Denmark. Two access routes serve the beach: Strandparkalle and Strandpromenaden. A parking area is available at the beach entrance, with an information board about the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. Monitoring data spans five years. Analysis shows a correlation between exceedances of water quality requirements (E. coli and intestinal enterococci content) and rainfall intensity. Cyanobacteria blooms can occur following rainy periods with subsequent warm weather. Large quantities of macroalgae can appear at the water's edge.

Risks

Overflow structures immediately west of the beach can cause temporary contamination during heavy rainfall with diluted wastewater, typically lasting a maximum of three days. Three additional overflow structures further west can also cause contamination during heavy rain. Cyanobacteria blooms can produce toxic substances causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea upon contact or water ingestion; children and immunocompromised individuals are particularly vulnerable. Large quantities of macroalgae at the water's edge can harbor toxins and protect disease-causing bacteria from UV rays. Glass, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills occasionally occur.
