The Plage du Bourg is a bathing area located in the commune of Saint-Michel-en-Grève in the Lannion-Trégor region of France. The beach is situated in the Baie de la Vierge (Bay of the Virgin) and is surrounded by a 15 square kilometre watershed primarily oriented towards agricultural activity. Several rivers and streams discharge into the water near the bathing area. The beach experiences seasonal population growth during summer months.

Coastal bay (Baie de la Vierge). The bathing area has a watershed of 15 square kilometres. Multiple watercourses including the Kerdu, Roscoat, and Traou Bigot discharge near the bathing site.

Location

Saint-Michel-en-Grève, Lannion-Trégor Communauté, France. The bathing area is known as Plage du Bourg and is located in the Baie de la Vierge.

Water Quality

Water quality has been monitored by the health authority (ARS) between 2013 and 2019, with measurements of E. coli and enterococci concentrations. Classification has been assessed according to both the 1976 and 2006 EU directives. Pollution sources identified include wastewater collection and treatment systems, stormwater drainage systems, agricultural activity, and local pollution sources. Green algae proliferation has been documented as an issue in the bay.

Risks

Multiple pollution sources affect the bathing water including discharged wastewater, stormwater drainage, and agricultural runoff from the watershed. Green algae blooms (prolifération algale) have been observed in the bay between 2010 and 2015. Overflow events from wastewater systems have been detected.
