The Grand Large bathing zone at Nimy (E03) is an officially designated bathing area located in the Haine river sub-basin, part of the International Escaut Hydrographic District. The bathing zone covers 37 hectares with a beach length of 50 metres and water depths ranging from 2 to 3 metres minimum to maximum. The lake bottom is characterised by relatively homogeneous silt. The zone was officially designated as a bathing area on 27 May 2004 and is situated at an altitude of 40 metres.

Water

River Haine (Haine II water body, code HN16R). Classified as a silty river with moderate slope. Water surface area: 37 hectares. Beach length: 50 metres. Minimum depth: 2 metres. Maximum depth: 3 metres. Bottom composition: silt.

Location

Nimy, Mons, Hainaut province, Belgium. The bathing zone is located on the Grand Large. The sports centre La Sapinette (ADEPS centre of Mons) manages the zone and is located at Avenue de la Sapinette, 3, 7000 Mons.

Facilities

Information panel placed in 2008 informing bathers of bathing authorisation and water quality. Panel displays information in three languages and includes a window for displaying bacteriological quality information.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored by the Direction Générale Agriculture, Ressources naturelles et Environnement (DGARNE). Historical bacteriological data for monitoring seasons are analysed, including 2010 bathing season data. An information panel displaying bacteriological quality classifications has been in place since 2008.
