Lac du Ry Jaune is a designated bathing water zone located in Cerfontaine, Belgium, in the Sambre sub-basin. The lake has been officially designated as a bathing zone since 25 October 1990 and is situated at an altitude of 210 metres. Since 1996, the bathing zone has never been declared non-compliant and regularly presents waters of excellent quality. No sampling campaigns have been conducted on the lake due to its consistently excellent water quality over many years.

Water

Artificial lake (reservoir). Surface area of water body: 18.84 hectares. Bathing zone area: 11.68 ares. Beach length: 70 metres. Minimum depth: 0.2 metres. Maximum depth: 1.60 metres. The lake bed is relatively homogeneous, characterised by sand and silt coverage.

Location

Cerfontaine, Belgium. The bathing zone is located in the Sambre hydrographic sub-basin, part of the International Hydrographic District of the Meuse.

Water Quality

The bathing zone has never been declared non-compliant since 1996 and consistently exhibits excellent water quality. No sampling campaigns have been carried out due to the excellent quality of the water. The zone presents no apparent quality problems.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria proliferation under certain favourable summer conditions. Identified contamination sources include livestock access to watercourses, autonomous septic systems from dwellings, and nutrient inputs from agriculture. The impact of these sources on overall water quality is relatively low.
