Water

Coastal marine water along the Nice shoreline extending to 300 metres from the municipal shore.

Location

Nice, France. Monitoring covers 26 sampling sites distributed between La Lanterne and Coco Beach.

Season

1 June to 30 September 2024. Pre-season sampling conducted between 10 and 20 May.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Good quality threshold: Enterococci ≤370/100ml and E. coli ≤1000/100ml. Weekly bacteriological monitoring is conducted during the bathing season. Results are interpreted within 36 hours minimum. Pollution sources are assessed through network investigations when thresholds are exceeded.

Risks

Potential pollution sources include sewerage networks and rainwater systems (structural insufficiency, accidents, overflow during rain), terrestrial inputs from watercourses, and marine pollution from hydrocarbures. Algae proliferation of Ostreopsis ovata is mentioned as a specific risk. Temporary overflows from the sewerage network may occur during heavy rainfall events.
