Plage des Gougins is a bathing beach located in the commune of Saint-Marcouf. The beach is subject to monitoring under the European Directive 2006/7/CE regarding bathing water quality management. A vulnerability profile was initially established in 2013 and revised in 2025 to assess risks and sources of pollution affecting the bathing area.

Water Quality

The beach has been subject to sanitary monitoring of bathing water quality since at least 2013. Water quality is classified according to Directive 2006/7/CEE. Monitoring includes measurement of faecal indicator bacteria. Historical water quality control data from 2013-2016 and subsequent periods are documented in the profile.

Risks

Potential pollution sources include coastal discharges (Tarets du nord, du sud, and Taret de Fontenay), collective and non-collective sanitation systems, stormwater runoff, agricultural activities, and algae accumulation on the shore. Port and mooring areas, camping facilities, and campsite activities are also identified as potential pollution sources.
