Lido e Colonia Solare Suna is a sandy-gravelly beach on Lake Maggiore in Verbania, Piedmont. The beach has a gentle slope and is preceded by a recently planted grassy elevated area. It spans 337 metres in width and is situated between the private Lido di Suna and the Sub Verbania diving centre. The bathing water is classified as Good based on monitoring data from 2020-2023.

Location

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good. Based on 19 routine samples collected during 2020-2023. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 46.0 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 71.2 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci 90th percentile: 190.8 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 368.9 MPN/100 ml. The bathing area falls within the homogeneous zone Maggiore 7 with high pressure classification due to high density of sewerage infrastructure related to significant built-up areas.

Risks

An overflow weir located approximately 200 metres from the monitoring zone may influence water quality. A wastewater treatment plant is approximately 5 kilometres from the monitoring point. Intense precipitation can trigger overflow structures. Accidental malfunctions of lifting systems can discharge untreated effluent into the lake. Vessels may release mineral oils and/or fuel. One cyanobacterial sample in the past four years exceeded 20,000 cell/ml density, though no toxic effects on swimmers or aquatic environment were recorded. No macroalgae, filamentous algae, or phytoplankton proliferation has been detected.
