San Giuliano beach (west side) is a sandy beach located in Erice, Sicily, facing the quarter of San Giuliano in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The beach has an area of approximately 0.37 km² and is 45 meters wide. It experiences high visitor numbers during the summer season and has been classified as excellent water quality.

Coastal marine water body in the Tyrrhenian Sea (Mar Tirreno), Strait of Sicily (Canale di Sicilia). The surveyed area extends approximately 0.37 km².

Location

Erice, province of Trapani, Sicily. The beach is located at coordinates 38.0341°N, 12.5330°E. Parking and facilities are managed by the municipality of Erice (Piazza della Loggia 3, Tel. 0923 502111).

Facilities

Lifeguard services and beach facilities (lidi infrastrutture) are present. Animal access is prohibited except in designated areas not communicated by the local authority.

Season

Monitoring and classification is current as of June 2024, with next review scheduled for 2028.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The beach is monitored by ARPA Sicilia. A sewage treatment plant (Consortile di Via Libica, European code 19TP00G0022DE001) serves an area with over 50,000 inhabitants and discharges treated effluent to the sea via a pipeline extending 3 km from the coast.

Risks

Mixed water overflow from emergency relief channels occurs at coordinates 38.0345°N, 12.5337°E. A microbiological contamination event was recorded in September 2019, with limits exceeded during summer 2019 coinciding with moderate rainfall in the preceding 48 hours. No cyanobacterial proliferation potential, macroalgae proliferation, or phytoplankton events have been documented.
