Lild Strand

Lild Strand is a bathing area located on Jammerbugt bay between Hanstholm and Fjerritslev, a few kilometres from the bird cliff Bulbjerg. The beach is approximately 50 metres wide and 300 metres long, with clear shallow water at the edge that becomes deep quickly. The area is surrounded by open, protected landscape featuring dunes, heathland, forest, lakes, and the Lild Klitplantage plantation along the coast. The beach is a sandy strand with gravel in places, sheltered by a dune ridge.

Water

Jammerbugt bay. Salinity 30-35 psu. Water depth increases rapidly, reaching 2 metres approximately 50 metres from the water's edge. Summer water temperature ranges 10-20 degrees Celsius. Current direction predominantly flows from south to north along the Jutland west coast and is wind-dependent.

Location

Located in Lild By, reached via Old Aalborgvej (route 569) turning onto Lild at Strandvejen and following it approximately 5 km through Lild By to reach the bathing site. Approximately 100 metres from the car park to the water's edge. Nearest address: Strandvejen 112, 7741 Frøstrup.

Season

Monitoring occurs throughout the bathing season. Bathing water analyses are conducted continuously during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as 'excellent', the highest bathing water quality classification. Classification based on data from 4 years of water analysis. No point source pollution risks identified. Non-sewered areas present in the catchment but water analyses show no faecal contamination.

Risks

Foam algae (skum alger) occurs typically on the west coast of Jutland, particularly after prolonged warm, calm, and sunny weather. Not toxic but large quantities are aesthetically unpleasant. Macroalgae (seaweed) can be washed onto the beach during strong winds and onshore winds, creating aesthetic problems and odour as it decomposes. Risk of seaweed accumulation in the bathing area during rough weather and onshore wind.
