Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Amtoft Strand is a sandy beach approximately 20 meters wide and over 300 meters long, with some gravel and stones. The water is predominantly clear with a slightly muddy bottom composed of stones and shell fragments. The beach is located at Gårdbæk Hage, immediately south of Amtoft Vig in Løgstør Bredning, surrounded by a large flat beach meadow area with several small lakes. A residential summer house area is situated immediately north of the bathing site, bordered to the east by protected forest.

Water

Sandy beach with gravel and stones. Approximately 20 meters wide and over 300 meters long. Water depth reaches 2 meters approximately 250–300 meters from the shore. Salinity ranges from 18–30 psu. The beach is located in the main water catchment area of Limfjorden. Summer water temperature ranges from 14–20 degrees Celsius.

Location

Located in Thisted Kommune, near Vesløs. Access is via Livøvej through a summer house area, then left onto a gravel road leading to a small parking area on the beach. The nearest address is Furvej 26, 7742 Vesløs.

Facilities

Picnic tables, small parking area, waste bins.

Season

Bathing season monitoring occurs throughout the summer period, typically April to October.

Water Quality

Bathing water is classified as excellent, the highest water quality category. Classification is based on bathing water analyses from the previous four years. Water analyses are conducted continuously throughout the bathing season.

Risks

Potential for seaweed (macroalgae) wash-up during strong winds and onshore winds, which can create aesthetic problems. Risk of algal blooms and cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) during extended periods of warm, calm, and sunny weather, typically from April to October, though no blooms have been observed in the area to date.
