Søndergård Strand is a sandy beach approximately 20 meters wide and more than 300 meters long, located in Amtoft Vig in the Limfjorden between Amtoft and Øsløs. The beach is bounded by stone breakwaters and features clear, shallow water at the edges. The area is surrounded by cultivated fields and moorland, with larger areas of beach meadow and heathland to the north. Deposited seaweed and eelgrass are present on the beach.

Water

The bathing water is in Amtoft Vig in the Limfjorden. Salinity ranges from 18 to 30 psu. Water depth reaches 2 meters approximately 250 meters from the water's edge. Summer water temperature ranges from 8 to 22 degrees Celsius between May and August. Prevailing currents flow from northeast to southwest. The water body is part of the Northern Kattegat and Skagerrak main water catchment.

Søndergård Strand is located approximately 1.5 kilometers north of Amtoft along route 581 (Amtoftvej). The parking area is situated 300 meters north of the beach. The nearest address is Amtoftvej 1b, 7742 Vesløs.

Season

Bathing water analysis is conducted throughout the bathing season. The period when cyanobacterial blooms can potentially occur is typically from April to October, with particular risk in late summer.

Water Quality

The bathing water at Søndergård Strand is classified as excellent, the highest water quality classification for a bathing site. This classification is based on data from four years of bathing water analysis. No fecal contamination from non-sewered areas is detected in the water. Nutrient runoff and pesticide leaching from agricultural areas in the catchment are expected but do not directly cause problems for water quality.

Risks

Risk of seaweed (macroalgae) wash-up on the beach during strong winds and onshore winds, which can create aesthetic problems and odour issues from decomposition. No risk of algal blooms or cyanobacterial blooms is identified, as no such phenomena have been observed in the area.
