Vevera Beach is a pebbly beach strip located in Arona on Lake Maggiore in the Piedmont region. The beach is open to the public and covers an area of 0.108 km². It is a newly identified bathing water zone where restoration works have been completed to remove potential pollution sources.

Water Quality

Classification: Good. Based on 19 routine samples from 2020–2023. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 85.5 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile: 123.1 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci 90th percentile: 189.5 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile: 297.1 MPN/100 ml. The area is characterized by high pressure from high density of sewerage pipes and treatment class IV depurators. The Vevera stream flows into the lake near the bathing zone. A storm overflow structure is located approximately 200 metres from the monitoring zone.

Risks

Intense rainfall can trigger overflow structures and accidental failures of pumping systems, introducing untreated sewage into the lake. Inadequate management of the sewerage network is a possible pollution source. The Vevera stream entering the lake could compromise water quality by introducing contaminants.
