Marina Grande di Amalfi is a bathing water area located in the Campania region, near the town of Amalfi in the province of Salerno. The beach is rocky and sandy, with jagged rocky coastline, terraces descending to sea level, and intense urbanization of the city. The area includes a port to the west, a sandy cove, tourist facilities, and cliffs.

Amalfi, province of Salerno, Campania region. The monitoring point is located at the Marina Grande beach area within the town.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2020-2023). Monitored under Italian Legislative Decree 116/2008.

Risks

Possible pollution sources identified include: a wastewater treatment plant (biological activated sludge type) with submarine outfall in Località Cieco; a lifting station and emergency overflow on the west side at Lungomare dei Cavalieri; the Levante pier; the Canneto stream mouth on the west side; the Dragone stream mouth on the east side; a lifting station and emergency overflow on the east side in Atrani; and potential submarine pipeline ruptures serving a settling tank in Atrani.
