Spiaggia di Atrani is a sandy beach located in the Campania region of southern Italy, situated within a rocky, jagged coastline with steep subvertical cliffs. The beach is nestled in a small cove below the densely urbanized town of Atrani, with terraces extending to sea level and bordered by a masonry breakwater. The area is served by tourist facilities and characterized by high vertical rock faces incised by the Vallone del Dragone ravine.

Location

Atrani, province of Salerno, Campania region, Italy. The municipality office is located at Via dei Dogi, CAP 84010 Atrani (Sa).

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good (based on monitoring years 2020–2023). Urban wastewater is conveyed through two loading tanks located at Marinella Square near sea level, then pumped to a loading chamber in Via dei Dogi where the submarine outfall begins. This outfall also receives wastewater from Scala and part of the discharge from Ravello.

Risks

Possible pollution sources identified: emergency overflow point at the pumping station and emergency spillway located at Via Gabriele Di Benedetto in Atrani (40.635481°N, 14.608674°E); discharge point at the mouth of the Dragone stream (40.6350°N, 14.6087°E); potential ruptures of the submarine outfall pipe serving the loading chamber in Via dei Dogi.
