Mørtelrenden is a bathing water area located north of Lodsparken in Hvidovre Kommune, connected to the bathing areas at Hvidovre Havn and Hvidovre Strand. The water has been classified as excellent quality based on 2021 data. Bathing occurs frequently near the bridge, though there is no established easy access to the water. Water depth at the sampling point is 1.35 metres at the edge and over two metres in the centre. Water temperature in the bathing season 2021 ranged from 17–26 °C.

Location

Mørtelrenden is located north of Lodsparken in the eastern part of Hvidovre Kommune, near Kalveboderne. Access is from Lodsvej to a parking area for visitors. The nearest toilets are at Hvidovre Havn at Strandhavevej 57, 2650 Hvidovre, near the parking area. Alternative toilets are available at Sejlklubben Suset.

Toilets at Hvidovre Havn (Strandhavevej 57, 2650 Hvidovre) or at Sejlklubben Suset. No lifeguards on site. Parking available at Lodsvej.

Season

1 June to 1 September. Water quality monitoring and public warnings are issued during this period.

Water Quality

Water classification: Excellent quality (based on 2021 data). Monitoring occurs 10 times during the bathing season (1 June to 1 September). All houses in Hvidovre Kommune are connected to sewerage; wastewater is directed to Renseanlæg Damhusåen or Spildevandscenter Avedøre. Water and sediment samples at the bathing station show no pollution exceeding drinking water or soil quality criteria. Risk from overflow events is considered relatively low due to dilution before reaching the bathing area. No cyanobacteria, phytoplankton blooms, or macroalgae have been previously observed.

Risks

Risk of short-term pollution from combined sewer overflows during heavy and prolonged rainfall; pollution typically lasts a maximum of 3 days after heavy rainfall ceases. Risk from overflow events is assessed as relatively low. Historical sources of pollution include a mortar works and associated shipping activity on the eastern side of Mørtelrenden, and a rainwater-dependent outlet from HOFOR inside Mørtelrenden.
