Naturbad Xanten-Wardt is an artificial lake bathing area located in the Xanten region. The water body covers 120 hectares with sandy substrate and naturally structured shoreline. Water quality has been consistently rated as excellent over the past four years (2020–2023). The lake has a mean depth of 11.4 metres and maximum depth of 19.6 metres, with water renewal primarily through groundwater flow.

Water

Artificial lake covering 120 hectares in lowland terrain (below 200 metres elevation). Mean water depth 11.4 metres, maximum depth 19.6 metres. Sandy bottom and naturally structured shoreline. Catchment area 10–100 km². Water renewal through groundwater circulation with exchange time exceeding 30 days. Water temperature ranges from 15 °C to 21.8 °C (average 19.8 °C). pH 8.4–8.6 (average 8.46). Conductivity 360–375 µS/cm (average 368 µS/cm). Water transparency 1.2–1.5 metres (average 1.3 metres). Mesotrophic nutrient status. Homogeneous water body with water level influenced by Rhine.

Water Quality

Excellent water quality classification maintained consistently from 2020 through 2023. No relevant pollution sources identified. No microbiological or chemical contamination in sediments detected.

Risks

Cyanobacteria water blooms observed outside bathing season within the past four years. Future mass development of cyanobacteria cannot be excluded. An ultrasonic device is in use to reduce cyanobacteria. Occasional bird presence may affect water quality. Gull occurrence documented with potential water quality impacts.
