Kolpos Nisi is a bathing water area located in Agia Napa, Cyprus. The beach stretches for 920 meters and features rocky formations in its central and western sections, with significant sandy deposits towards the western and eastern parts. A small island is situated approximately 45 meters offshore in the eastern section, connected to the mainland by a sandbar. The beach is lined with residential properties, hotel complexes, and recreational facilities, with limited natural vegetation consisting mainly of low shrubs and salt-tolerant plants.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water body named Agia Napa. Average water depth is 1 meter. Maximum water depth is 2 meters. Beach length is 920 meters. Seabed composition includes sandy sediments in the eastern section and rocky substrate in the central part, with mixed sandy and rocky substrate in the western inlet. Limited Posidonia oceanica seagrass beds occur in localized areas on the western section and southwestern island.

Location

Located in Agia Napa municipality, Famagusta district, Cyprus. Coordinates: 33.9671°E, 34.9868°N (ETRS89). Monitoring point is positioned in an area with high concentration of swimmers and is representative of the bathing water area.

Facilities

Lifeguards with rescue equipment available from 10:00 to 18:00. Toilets located in adjacent recreational and catering areas. Umbrellas and sun loungers available for hire. Waste collection bins present. Organized marine sports center in the eastern section offering comprehensive water sports activities. Maximum daily bathers: 2000. Beach cleaning is managed by Agia Napa municipality.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data since Cyprus's European Union accession in 2004. The coastal water body is in good ecological status. Monitoring results from 2004-2007 showed nitrate concentrations and chlorophyll-a below 2 mg/l and 2 µg/l respectively, with stabilizing trends in maximum nitrate concentrations. No eutrophication was recorded at any coastal water monitoring station during 2004-2007. The area is designated with Blue Flag status.

Risks

Temporary macroalgae blooms of Cladophora spp observed during swimming seasons in 2005, 2007, and 2009. Moderate risk level for macroalgae and phytoplankton development. Between 2008 and 2010, only one short-term pollution incident was recorded (12 May 2008). Short-term pollution risks are low. Possible sources include passing and moored recreational vessels, high bather numbers, and potential malfunctions of sewage systems in beachfront developments.
