Oldenstädter See is an inland lake formed after sand extraction in the 1970s for the Elbe lateral canal and in the late 1990s during the construction of a bypass road. The lake has a surface area of 155,000 square metres and is fed by groundwater. It is surrounded by natural vegetation, reed areas, and beach sections, with a walking path around its perimeter. The lake is divided into three zones: a nature biotope, a windsurfing area, and a bathing area with two beach sections.
