Oldenstädter See is an inland lake formed after sand extraction in the 1970s for the Elbe lateral canal and again in the late 1990s during construction of a local bypass. The lake has a surface area of 155,000 m². It is surrounded by natural vegetation, reed beds, and beach areas with a walking path encircling it. The lake is divided into three zones: a nature biotope, a windsurfing area, and a bathing area with two beach sections.
