Osso da Baleia is a bathing water located on the mesotidal exposed Atlantic Coast, part of the water body CWB-II-3. The beach is classified as type III, not subject to direct influence of urban systems but associated with sensitive natural systems, and is situated in the central area of Mata Nacional do Urso. The region has Mediterranean climate characteristics and offers various infrastructure, equipment and services.

Water Quality

Water quality classification in 2024 according to Decreto-Lei 135/09. No short-term pollution episodes occurred during the bathing season. Sampling frequency is 1 sample per 2 weeks. Potential microbiological pollution sources include diffuse contamination from water outfall north of the bathing water, solid waste from beach activities, marine litter, bird colonies, and high number of users.
