Oura-Leste is a coastal bathing water located on an intensively used urban beach near an urban area in Albufeira. The beach features golden sand with ochre-coloured cliffs and some indented rock formations. The beach extends 220 metres in length with a tidal range of 3.4 metres and mean wave height of 0.5 metres. Predominant winds are from the east-southeast.

Location

Albufeira municipality. Monitoring point coordinates: Latitude 37.0851°, Longitude -8.2227° (ETRS 89).

Season

15 May to 15 October 2025.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2024 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09 of 3 June. Oura-Leste (PTCE8U) has been grouped with Oura (PTCH9F), with this monitoring point representing both sites. Monitoring frequency is monthly. No days of bathing prohibition or advice against bathing occurred in the 2024 bathing season due to short-term pollution events.

Risks

Microbiological contamination is possible due to sporadic malfunction of sanitation or rainwater collection systems, or during heavy rainfall events causing surface run-off or overflows. Cyanobacteria proliferation is unlikely. Macroalgae proliferation is uncommon. Phytoplankton proliferation is unlikely.
