Oura is a coastal bathing water located on an intensively used urban beach near an urban area. The beach features golden sand with ochre-coloured cliffs and some highly indented rock formations. The beach extends 280 metres with a tidal range of 3.4 metres and average wave height of 0.5 metres. Prevailing wind direction is east to south-east.

15 May to 15 October 2025. Monthly sampling frequency.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2024 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09 of 3 June. Microbiological contamination may occur due to sporadic malfunction of sanitation and rainwater collection system infrastructures or during heavy rainfall events. Bathing was advised against or prohibited on 1 day during the 2024 bathing season due to short-term pollution events.

Risks

Short-term pollution events lasting less than 72 hours are scarce but possible. Microbiological contamination may occur from sporadic sanitation infrastructure malfunctions or during intense rainfall causing surface run-off or overflows. Cyanobacteria proliferation is unlikely. Macroalgae proliferation is uncommon. Phytoplankton proliferation is unlikely.
