Location

Cascais municipality. Sampling point coordinates: latitude 38.68552°, longitude -9.353621° (ETRS89).

Season

1 May to 15 October 2024. Weekly sampling frequency.

Water Quality

Water quality classification 2023 according to Decreto-Lei 135/09 (as amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). No days of bathing prohibition or warning during 2023 bathing season due to short-term pollution events.

Risks

Short-term pollution risk (low) may occur due to excessive rainfall in the surface water drainage network, typically lasting 1 to 2 days. Potential microbiological pollution sources include the urban surface water drainage network and sewerage network, with a pumping station (EE) nearby that may discharge directly to the sea in emergencies. Three watercourses drain into the bathing water. Cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation are unlikely or rare.
