S. Pedro do Estoril is a beach located in cliffs of considerable beauty. The beach features an Environment Interpretation Center called Pedra do Sal. It is situated in the Cascais municipality in the Tagus and West river basin. The bathing water is monitored weekly during the official bathing season.

Season

May 1st to October 15th, 2024.

Water Quality

Water quality classification was assessed in 2023 according to Decreto-Lei 135/09 and amendments. Weekly sampling is conducted. No days of bathing advisories or prohibitions due to short-term pollution occurred during the 2023 bathing season.

Risks

Short-term pollution events lasting 1–2 days may occur due to increased stormwater drainage runoff after rainfall or sewerage network failures. Potential microbiological pollution sources include the stormwater drainage network and the São Pedro do Estoril pumping station, which discharges directly to the sea in emergencies. Cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation are unlikely. Warning signs will be posted if bathing users are considered at risk.
