Nervi, Genoa, Liguria region, Italy. Accessible via the Anita-Garibaldi seaside promenade, SS1 road, and Nervi railway station. The bathing area extends 0.473 km along the coastline.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2019-2022: Excellent. No treatment plants are present in the area. A sewage pipe located approximately 560 m west of the sampling station discharges offshore. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae proliferation has been detected in the region over the past decade. Reference monitoring station at Bagnara recorded Ostreopsis ovata exceeding 30,000 cells/litre in July 2019 and values between 10,000-30,000 cells/litre in June and August 2018 and July 2022.

Risks

Sewage discharge from a pipe approximately 560 m west of the sampling station, located about 450 m from the beach. Port-related pollution from the Nervi tourist marina approximately 450 m west of the sampling station. During heavy rainfall, increased water flow from torrents may transport wastewater downstream. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae can produce temporary and reversible respiratory effects and febrile symptoms in sensitive individuals when inhaled as aerosol.
