Coastal water body (CWA3 category: Mountainous Surveys, Low Stability). Area extension: 0.339 square kilometres. The area is characterised by rocky cliffs and low escarpments.

Location

Located in Genova, Liguria, Italy, in the municipality of Genova near Genova Nervi railway station. The area faces the seafront promenade and parks along the coast.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2011–2014). Identified pollution sources include coastal treatment plants (Depuratore Quinto and Depuratore Bogliasco) with active marine outfalls. No special measures or specific monitoring are currently activated.

Risks

Cyanobacteria blooms are not characteristic of the Ligurian Sea due to prevailing oligotrophic conditions. Potentially toxic algal strains have occurred; monitoring in July 2008 detected an exceedance of alert threshold for Ostreopsis ovata concentration. The aquatic ecosystem during algal bloom periods showed typical signs of stress.
