Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). Identified pollution sources include port emergency discharge pipes and river mouths. Wastewater treatment involves multiple emergency discharge pipes.

Risks

Emergency discharge pipes from the port and river mouths are identified as pollution sources. Cyanobacteria blooms are not characteristic of the Ligurian Sea due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions. Potentially toxic algal strains were detected in 2008 in both water and macroalgae samples, with monitoring alert thresholds exceeded in that year.
