Zona Prati is a coastal bathing area in Riva Ligure, Liguria, located in the Santo Stefano al Mare water body. The beach is situated in an uncultivated area immediately upstream of a wastewater treatment facility. The bathing zone covers an area of 1.014 square kilometres and is classified as excellent for water quality based on 2010–2013 monitoring data.

Coastal waters (CWA3 - Coastal Waters: Mountainous Reliefs Low Stability) in the Ligurian Sea. The water body is identified as Santo Stefano al Mare. Area: 1.014 square kilometres.

Location

Riva Ligure, Imperia Province, Liguria region. The Torrente Argentina watershed basin drains to this area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2010–2013). Identified pollution sources include a consortial wastewater treatment plant (depuratore consortile) at Prati Inferiore with an active pipeline discharge to the sea, and the mouth of the Torrente Argentina.

Risks

Pollution from wastewater treatment plant discharge pipeline and river mouth. Cyanobacterial blooms do not occur due to oligotrophic conditions of the Ligurian Sea. No toxic algal species proliferation has been recorded in the past four years.
