La Bergerie is a 1 kilometre long sandy beach in Hyères, located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southern France. The beach is oriented east and has a width of 20 metres. It is managed as a beach concession by the Metropolis, with the commune exercising police powers up to 300 metres offshore. The beach experiences high visitor frequency and is open to non-motorised water activities and swimming.

Sandy beach with a watershed basin area of 0.4 square kilometres. The beach faces east and has an open configuration.

Location

Hyères, Var department, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, France. Coordinates: N 43°02'51.6" - E 6°09'03.0". Access via Avenue de la Bergerie. Parking is available. Disabled access is provided, including adapted water entry equipment.

Facilities

Rescue post with 2 lifeguards. Four accessible shower outlets for disabled persons. Two disabled-accessible toilets. Drinking water point. Rubbish bins with selective waste sorting. Beach restaurants (chalets). Disabled access to the bathing site. Adapted water entry equipment for disabled persons.

Season

1 July to 31 August. Daily monitoring from 10:00 to 19:00.

Water Quality

Water quality classification in 2022: Excellent, according to Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological monitoring conducted by ARS (Regional Health Agency) and self-monitoring by a metropolitan service provider. Microbiological indicators monitored include Escherichia coli and faecal Enterococci. No microbiological pollution was recorded in 2019 or 2021. In 2020, preventive closure occurred on 4 June due to adverse weather conditions with no contamination detected. In 2022, preventive closures occurred on 28 June and 14 September due to adverse weather conditions; rapid analysis results showed no contamination. No chemical pollution was recorded from 2019 to 2022. No biological pollution was recorded from 2019 to 2022.

Risks

Potential bacterial pollution from street runoff through storm collectors during dry periods. Potential overflow of wastewater from the La Bergerie pumping station and upstream network during heavy rain, with discharge of sewage onto roads through inspection chambers.
