La Capte Thaalasso is a sandy beach located in Hyères in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southern France. The beach is 1 kilometer long with a width of 10 meters and faces east. It experiences high attendance and offers swimming and non-motorized water sports activities. The beach is managed as a concession by the Metropolis, with the municipality exercising police powers up to 300 meters from shore.

Sandy beach with an eastern orientation. The beach is 1 kilometer long and 10 meters wide. The drainage basin covering the beach has a surface area of 0.40 square kilometers.

Location

Located in Hyères, Var department, southern France at coordinates N 43°03'26.4" - E 6°09'01.5". Access to the beach is via Allée de la Mer. Parking is available. There is no disabled access to the bathing site or water entry equipment for disabled persons.

Facilities

Showers are available. Toilets are available. Waste bins for household waste are present. Parking is available. No lifeguard station. No drinking water point. Animals are not permitted.

Water Quality

The beach received an Excellent classification in 2022 according to Directive 2006/7/CE. No microbiological pollution was reported in 2019, 2021, or 2022. No chemical pollution was reported from 2019 to 2022. No biological pollution was reported from 2019 to 2022. Preventive closures occurred on 04/06/2020, 28/06/2022, and 14/09/2022 due to adverse meteorological conditions, with no contamination confirmed.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include contaminated water discharge from the Canal de Ceinture at the Port of La Capte (medium risk in dry weather, increases in rain); bacterial pollution from street washing via stormwater collector (low risk in dry weather, increases in rain); overflow and sewage discharge onto roads from malfunctioning pumping stations and upstream network saturation (low risk in dry weather, increases in rain).
