Pramousquier Est is a sandy beach located in Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer on the French Mediterranean coast. The beach is surrounded by rocky outcrops with photophilic algae at its extremities and features a seagrass meadow (Posidonia) at 270 metres from the shore, indicating good marine environmental quality. The beach has an abrupt bathymetric profile that ensures regular water mixing and good exposure to waves. It is frequented by both residential and anchorage-type pleasure boats.

Average summer water temperature 22°C, with maximum 26°C. Rocky infralittoral zones with photophilic algae at beach extremities.

Location

Pramousquier Est beach, Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer, on the Mediterranean coast of southern France. The beach is bounded by the border between Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer and Le Lavandou communes.

Water Quality

Type 1 bathing water profile: no proven risk of bathing water pollution. Water quality classified as sufficient, good, or excellent according to Directive 2006/7/CE based on the four preceding bathing seasons. Historical classification ratings from 2006–2009 all A (good quality). Watershed is sensitive to erosion due to steep slope (14%). Pollution sources identified include mixed pollution from organic matter and micronutrients (cadmium, zinc, copper) from wastewater discharges and automobile traffic.

Risks

Phytoplankton proliferation risk is low due to beach exposure to dominant winds and swell. Wastewater network located 30 metres from bathing zone with potential seepage issues. Storm water runoff from Pramousquier stream carries suspended solids, faecal matter, hydrocarbons, and heavy metals during heavy rain events. Pump station malfunctions could cause sewage discharge to sea. Moored pleasure boats present risk of momentary faecal contamination from improper waste management.
