Plage Sud is an open beach in Mimizan, located on the Atlantic Ocean coast in the Landes department of Aquitaine, France. The beach is protected by a sand dune barrier and extends approximately 400 metres in length. The bathing area experiences a temperate oceanic climate with warm summers and mild, humid winters. Water quality is monitored seasonally during the official bathing period.

Atlantic Ocean beach. The bathing zone is an open ocean beach protected by a sand dune barrier. Beach length: 400 metres. Beach width: 2 metres. Water dynamics are influenced by wind, tides, waves, and river discharge. Strong Atlantic swells occur primarily in autumn and winter, generated by depressions carried by the Gulf Stream.

Location

Mimizan, Landes department, Aquitaine region, France. Located 49 kilometres southwest of La Teste-de-Buch. Coordinates: 44° 12' 4'' North, 1° 13' 60'' West. Altitude: 40 metres.

Risks

Powerful waves and strong Atlantic swells occur primarily in autumn and winter. West to northwest winds drive pollution toward coastal zones. Violent winds (>100 km/h) occur 2 to 4 times annually, generally from October to March.
