Playa La Arena is a coastal bathing beach located in Arrecife, Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is 115 metres long and 10 metres wide, with fine golden sand and gravel substrate. The water is calm and protected from wave exposure, with tidal range of 1–3 metres. The official bathing season runs from 1 June to 30 September.

Coastal maritime water body in the Port of Arrecife, classified as a heavily modified surface water mass (ES70LZAMM). The beach is 115 metres long and 10 metres wide. Water conditions are calm with protected wave exposure. Tidal range is 1–3 metres. Substrate comprises fine golden sand and gravel.

Arrecife, Lanzarote, Las Palmas province, Canary Islands, Spain. Pedestrian access is good. Vehicle access is good. A promenade is present. Disabled access is available. Parking is available and in good condition.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified based on microbiological indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci) assessed over four years according to RD 1341/2007. The coastal surface water mass is in good ecological status (biological and physicochemical). No previous contamination episodes are recorded in the Náyade database.

Risks

Multiple diffuse and point pollution sources are identified: Los Mármoles Port (sports, fishing, and transit activities), EBAR Agramar, Maritime Fishing Vocational Training Centre (aquaculture tank), Arrecife Wastewater Treatment Plant submarine outfall, DISA discharges, Harinas del Mar outfall and relief system. Potential contamination risks include rainwater runoff carrying contaminants, urban and industrial wastewater (pipe breaks, sanitation network failures, emergency overflows, unauthorized discharges), brine discharge (desalination rejection), accidental hydrocarbon spills, organic waste, ship cleaning, and aquaculture saltwater discharge. Cyanobacteria proliferation episodes (Trichodesmium) occurred in 2004, 2010, and more intensively in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
