Playa Bahía is a natural sandy beach in Mazarrón, Puerto de Mazarrón, located on the Mediterranean coast. The beach is 190 metres long with an average width of 20 metres and features golden sand. It is an urban beach with high occupancy, primarily used for daily recreational swimming. Water quality was rated as excellent from 2000–2011.

Water Quality

Water quality rated as excellent during 2000–2009 and in 2010–2011. No significant pressure sources identified. Potentially toxic phytoplankton cells were detected in some sampling campaigns during the bathing season in 2008 and 2009; risk level classified as low. No authorised discharges in the immediate area. The beach is part of the coastal water body 'Punta de La Azohía-Puntas de Calnegre', which has good ecological status.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that rarely affects public health or ecosystems; low risk. Jellyfish appear seasonally, with peak abundance from early spring to late summer; short-duration episodes are unlikely.
