Playa La Isla is a natural sandy beach in Mazarrón, Puerto de Mazarrón, located on the Mediterranean coast. The beach stretches 600 metres in length with an average width of 15 metres and features golden sand. It is situated within the Segura River Basin hydrographic demarcation and experiences micromareal tidal conditions with water renewal occurring within seven days. The beach accommodates approximately 3,900 swimmers at maximum capacity and is classified as an urban bathing zone.

Mediterranean coastal maritime zone. Length 600 metres, average width 15 metres. Golden sand bottom. Water renewal occurs within seven days. Micromareal tides (less than 2 metres amplitude). Annual precipitation less than 300 millimetres.

Foot showers (2 units). Foot wash stations present. No showers, toilets, or changing rooms.

Water Quality

Water quality was rated as excellent during the period 2000–2009. Water quality was rated as excellent in 2010 and 2011. The water body is part of the coastal water mass 'Punta de La Azohía-Puntas de Calnegre', which has good ecological status.

Risks

A desalination facility (Desaladora de La Mojonera, S.A.) is identified as a point source of pressure. Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that rarely affects public health or ecosystems; sampling conducted in 2008 and 2009 showed virtually no potentially toxic cells throughout the bathing season, with risk classified as null or very low. Jellyfish appear seasonally, with peak abundance from early spring to late summer; jellyfish production is highly variable.
