Playa Grande Castellar is a 1,600-meter-long urban beach in the Puerto de Mazarrón area with an average width of 80 meters and golden sand composition. The beach experiences high occupancy with an estimated maximum of 5,500 swimmers daily and is primarily used for recreation. Water renewal occurs within 7 days, and the beach features a promenade and natural origins. The water quality was rated as excellent during 2000–2011.

Mediterranean Sea coastal maritime zone in the Segura River Basin hydrographic demarcation. The beach is 1,600 meters long with an average width of 80 meters. Golden sand bottom. Microtidal range (less than 2 meters). Water renewal period is less than 7 days.

Water Quality

Water quality was rated as excellent for the period 2000–2009 and remained excellent in 2010 and 2011. Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that rarely affects public health or ecosystems. Sampling conducted in 2008 and 2009 showed practically no presence of potentially toxic cells. Risk level is null or very low.

Risks

Jellyfish appear seasonally with peak abundance from early spring to late summer. The risk of short-duration jellyfish episodes is low. Toxic phytoplankton risk is null or very low.
