Playa del Puerto is a 500-metre-long natural beach in Mazarrón with a golden sand bottom and average width of 30 metres. The beach is located in an urban area with high occupancy and facilities including a promenade with complementary services. It is awarded Blue Flag status. The beach is suitable for bathing and experiences daily recreational use with an estimated maximum capacity of 8,450 swimmers.

Mediterranean Sea coastal maritime zone. Beach length 500 metres, average width 30 metres. Golden sand bottom with natural origin. Water renewal rate less than 7 days. Microtidal range of less than 2 metres.

Mazarrón, Puerto de Mazarrón. UTM coordinates X 654035.44, Y 4159395.93. Located at latitude 37.566876° and longitude -1.257095° in zone 30N. The beach is situated in an urban zone with a promenade and complementary services.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as excellent during 2000–2009 and remained excellent in 2010 and 2011. The beach is located in the coastal water body 'Punta de la Azohía–Puntas de Calnegre', which has good ecological status according to ARM/2656/2008 planning standards.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation risk is null or very low; monitoring in 2008 and 2009 showed negligible presence of potentially toxic cells. Jellyfish appear seasonally with maximum abundance from early spring to late summer; jellyfish production is highly variable. Risk of short-duration episodes is low.
