Playa Barnuevo is a natural sandy beach located in San Javier, Santiago de la Ribera, in the Mar Menor coastal maritime zone. The beach extends 200 metres in length with an average width of 20 metres and features dark sand as its substrate. It experiences high occupancy from external users and is classified as an urban beach with a promenade and complementary services. Water renewal occurs within 7 days, and the beach is designated for daily recreational swimming use.

Toilets (1 facility). No showers or foot-washing stations.

Water Quality

Water quality from 2000–2009 was rated excellent except in 2007 (good) and 2001 (poor). Water quality in 2010 and 2011 was rated excellent. No significant pollution pressure identified. No authorized discharges in the proximate area. Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that rarely affects public health; sampling in 2008 and 2009 showed practically no potentially toxic cells.

Risks

Jellyfish have seasonal appearance periods with maximum abundance between early spring and late summer. Toxic phytoplankton proliferation risk is null or very low. Short-duration episodes are unlikely.
