Playa La Mota is a 2700-metre-long natural sandy beach in San Pedro, Lo Pagán, with a mean width of 30 metres and a golden sand bottom. The beach is located in the Mar Menor coastal maritime zone and experiences a micromareal tide amplitude of less than 2 metres. Water renewal occurs within 7 days, and the beach has a high occupancy level with approximately 38,610 maximum swimmers estimated daily.

Toilets (3 units present). No showers or foot-washing facilities. No changing rooms.

Water Quality

Water quality was rated as excellent during 2000–2009 and remained excellent in 2010 and 2011. No significant pollution sources are present. No authorized discharges occur in the proximate area.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that rarely affects public health and ecosystems; monitoring in 2008 and 2009 showed minimal presence of potentially toxic cells. Risk level: null or very low. Jellyfish appear seasonally with maximum abundance between early spring and late summer; jellyfish production is highly variable.
