Playa La Puntica in San Pedro, Lo Pagán is a natural sandy beach located in the Mar Menor coastal zone. The beach extends 500 metres in length with an average width of 30 metres and features golden sand. It is an urban beach with high occupation levels and daily recreational use, accommodating a maximum of approximately 7,150 swimmers. Water quality was rated as excellent during most of the 2000–2011 monitoring period, with one exception in 2008 when it was rated as good.

Coastal marine zone within the Mar Menor water mass. Beach length 500 metres, average width 30 metres. Golden sand bottom. Water renewal rate less than 7 days. Microtidal zone with tidal amplitude less than 2 metres. Annual precipitation less than 300 millimetres.

Water Quality

Water quality rated as excellent during 2000–2007 and 2010–2011. Water quality rated as good in 2008 and 2009. The Mar Menor water body has acceptable ecological status. No significant pollution pressure identified. No authorized discharges in the adjacent area.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation risk is null or very low; sampling in 2008 and 2009 showed practically no presence of potentially toxic cells. Jellyfish appear seasonally with peak abundance between early spring and late summer; episodes are unlikely to be of long duration.
