Playa del Carboncillo is a 600-meter-long urban beach in Adra, Almería, with an average width of 70 meters. The beach has dark sand and gravel composition, experiencing moderate waves and windy conditions. It is classified as a natural Mediterranean coastal water body influenced by Atlantic waters, with deep waters and muddy-sandy substrate.

Mediterranean coastal water body. Micromareal range of 0–2 meters. Deep waters with muddy-sandy substrate. Current regime dominant toward east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Wave regime dominant from east and east-northeast associated with levante wind. Moderately exposed to wave action. Annual precipitation 400–600 mm.

Location

Adra, Almería, Andalucía, Spain. Access by foot or car. Located along the Almería coast (Litoral de Almería). The beach is part of the Calahonda - Puerto de Adra water body.

Facilities

Red Cross station present. Lifeguard and rescue equipment available. Signage and safety hazard signage present. Accessible facilities for disabled visitors. Toilets, showers, and trash bins available. Cleaning service provided. Walkways present. Nautical club present. Sports port at Adra. No nautical equipment rental or underwater diving zone.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent for seasons 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Short-duration contamination risk is low and microbiological in nature (24 hours). Risk assessment methodology: deterministic, UNE 150008 standard. Diffuse pollution sources include agricultural, constructed, and altered land uses in the influence zone. Point source: EDAR ADRA (AL100), an urban treated wastewater treatment plant. Rambla de Guainos and Rambla river courses also identified.

Low risk of jellyfish. Low risk of phytoplankton proliferation. Low risk of macroalgae proliferation.
