San Nicolás is a 510-meter-long urban beach in Adra, Almería, located on the Mediterranean coast of Andalucía. The beach has a mean width of 35 meters and is composed of gravel and dark sand with deep waters. Swimming conditions are calm, and the beach experiences high occupancy. The beach is situated in the Andalusian Mediterranean basin, influenced by Atlantic waters.

Water

Mediterranean coastal waters in the Puerto de Adra – Guardias Viejas water body. Deep waters with muddy-sandy substrate. Micro-tidal range (0–2 m). Current regime dominantly eastward, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Moderately exposed to wave action, with dominant waves from the east and east-northeast associated with levante winds. Annual precipitation: 400–600 mm.

Location

Adra, Almería, Andalucía. Easy pedestrian access and vehicle access available. Nearby port: Puerto Deportivo de Adra.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent for all monitored seasons: 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Short-duration contamination risk is low, with microbiological character (24-hour duration). Risk assessment determined via deterministic methodology (UNE 150008 standard). Point source: EDAR ADRA (AL100), an urban treatment facility. Diffuse sources include agricultural, built, and altered land use in the influence zone.

Risks

Low risk of jellyfish, phytoplankton blooms, and macroalgae proliferation.
